What is Serratiopeptidase?

Serratiopeptidase is a proteolytic enzyme that contains a peptidase originally found in the gut of the Japanese silkworm and now isolated from the bacteria strain, Serratia sp. HY-6.  Scientific literature and controlled clinical trials with significant patient groups suggest that serratiopeptidase appears to be efficacious in the reduction of certain types of inflammation and swelling, while also enhancing the action of certain antibiotics.
